Here I am, nine miles deep in the Wind River Range and I am finally able to take my pack off. I sit there wondering what to do first. Set up camp? Get my camera gear ready and explore? Nap?

I decide to get my ish unpacked and organized so when I'm even more dead tired than I already am, I can just eat and curl up and crash. After everything is in its rightful place and put away, I start my scouting ritual. I go everywhere, within reason, for the evening and compare comps to each other just like everyone else does. I do this for the obvious reasons. So that when the sky blows up, I'm not racing around trying to get my poop in a group and find a composition I "settle on."

Most evenings I'm left with flat light and unanswered prayers for a good sunset or sunrise. But when the gears line up and everything falls into place, being ready with your A, B, C.... shots, it's wonderful.

This shot came about just before the storm began to work its way over us. The light had quite literally just punched through under the clouds and before it became overwhelmingly intense, I thought that I'd get my B-side shot out of the way. With the camera mere inches off the water and the light growing with intensity, I could just feel that deep happiness slowly growing inside. You know, the one that begins as a smile, then you start getting fidgety like a kid that has to pee (except with a big smile on your face), and finally you're doing some gang buster type dance hooting and hollering because everything finally falls into place for you.

I mean, let's face it, I'm not out every second of every day like Metternich, Adamus, Gore, Babnik, all the big wigs. So, when this happens for me, you'd better bet your ass I'm approaching one of the closest chances at nirvana I can reach.

Funny though because that moment is always so short lived. Just like my facebook feed, I quickly move on to the next thing. In this case, it was another shot about 200 yards away that ended up being my A-side shot for the extended weekend.

All in all, I had some great company, in an amazing area, and ended up with a few keepers. No complaints from this fella, that's for sure
