Light Up the Boulders by Jacob-Routzahn Light Up the Boulders by Jacob-Routzahn
Most of my photographs take part around sunset or sunrise. As of recently, I've had an epiphany that some of the best shots I've been viewing as of lately, haven't partaken at either of those time frames. So, needing to stretch my legs from the computer and work on different photos, I took Jasper out and headed to our usual spot, Horsetooth Reservoir.

We hiked around scouting for spots to shoot and for a brief moment, the clouds parted long enough for me to set up on a really neat boulder. Facing North, the lighting formed terrific shadows across the hills and pulled out the colors from the remaining fall foliage.

Well, that wasn't due to facing North, that was just the low angle of the sun. But it was all very pretty and an enjoyable day out and about.

It is just on the West side of Fort Collins, CO. Are you from around this area?

Maybe when I go to visit my two cousins who are both attending CSU, because I know they would want to go. It seems like such a lovely place to go.

Im really digging your story. I too usually shoot for sunrise/sunset and dawn/dusk. However, I might have to re-evaluate that a bit and head out in the middle of the day. Just got back from a trip and most was during the day, with some very harsh light. Hopefully I pulled something good out of it.

Great shot!

Thank you very much and I'm glad to hear that! Like I had stated, I just can't help but go out at those times, but I think I'm missing other shots that could be potentially awesome from not heading out. Maybe not from 11-3 but after that I'm going to be out there. You can bet your butt on that. :D

True, you also seem to have some great locations to work with as well. Most of the time during the day I tend to focus on smaller scenes, but who knows what I am missing. Of course, the local areas are not much to my liking in terms of landscape photography, but I guess I should just look at it as more of a challenge to overcome.
