A friend of mine finally had some time off of work and decided to drive up from Denver to hang out. We had a great time long boarding around town and getting a couple of beers, but once the afternoon was over, we headed up to the Cherokee State Wildlife Area.
There is a plateau I have been wanting to climb up for some time now and I knew there would be a terrific view, especially with the wildflowers popping up. Even though we were destroyed by the mosquitoes, we still had great light and a good visit. Definitely a new favorite on the property.
I think you have a great image here, both compositionally and technically. The results speak for themselves. Very well done!
The timing when you tool the picture was during that magic period around sunset. You managed the white balance really well. It's tricky to do under the lighting conditions you were shooting under. Exposure is great too. No lost details in the shadows and no blown highlights; again something that is technically not the easiest thing to do.
I think your view also works well. A nice mix of grasses, flowers, lichen and rocks in the foreground just touched by the setting sun. A nice interplay of colours. The cool tones of the hills nicely contrasts the forground.
I'm hard pressed to make any suggestions for improvements. A couple of niggly things around the edges that could be cleaned up in Photoshop, but that would be as far as I would go.
An excellent piece of work! If the mosquitos are as bad as the ones where I live, you certainly paid in blood to get this shot!
Thank you so much I am glad you enjoy this shot. I felt really good when I finished with the shot and reviewed it. Just hope to continue more shots like this
Excellent use of the light, I like the zones you've used. In the image as I see it on my PC, the penstemen look a little soft, as if perhaps some breeze might have moved them during the shot; they'd look better if completely sharp. I love the composition and the colors, they're understated but form a very soothing and harmonious palette. Good job.
